Our Decisions

Everyone became excited about the apples.
Because death was something we needed.
Enough naming animals, kissing trees.
We had our eyes on some sweet property.
A plot of earth nobody could take away.
Unless the Big Spoilsport had other plans.
To take us back despite our decisions.
We've chosen to mingle with dirt and worms.
Our faith is in zeroes.  We'll accept nothing more.
If we're lifted up again, to walk and talk.
To run out of conversation, to smell flowers.
To look at them millions of times anew.
We will arm ourselves with slingshots.
Batter him and each other with stones.
All of us are loose bones, parts of stars.
He better get used to us not speaking.
In silence there's a sweetness we love.
