no longer conscious of the circle
sealed to train a tongue
abide, in elegant order,
the presence of their death.
I stand inside the measured square
until little is left of me.
Twilight collapses across the rows of thinning stones
sown into the ground
to mouth the names of those contained.
Beyond the fence, two old horses
stand on a ridge.
